Court orders NDDC’s IMC to stop operations
By Alfred Kayode, Abuja
Justice Ahmed Mohammed of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued an order retraining the Interim Management Committee [IMC] of the Niger-Delta Development Commission NDDC from performing the function of a substantive Board.
The court order is sequel to an exparte motion instituted by the Incorporated Trustees of Forum for Accountability and Good Governance pursuant to some sections of the NDDC and Procurement Acts.
The Court also granted leave for an order compelling the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission [ICPC] to investigate the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio and the IMC over alleged N3billion contract fraud.
A leave for judicial review of the power of the President to appoint an Interim Management Committee to perform the functions of a substantive Board of the NDDC was also granted in favour of the applicants.
Among the nine respondents in the lawsuit are the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, the Niger-Delta Affairs Minister and the Nigerian Senate.
