The chairman Bayelsa state board of internal revenue, Dr.Nimibofa Ayawei,a pioneer Doctorate degree graduate of Chemistry of the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, has given reason why he built and donated a central research laboratory to his Almamater.
Ayawei who is was among the 15 graduands confered with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree at the 5th combined convocation ceremony of Niger Delta University said,he built the research laboratory to ease the cost of students travelling outside the country, adding that he does not want others to experience the same difficulties he encountered while carrying out his research.
The research centre was also named as Dr.Nimibofa Ayawei Central Research Laboratory (NACRL) for the kind gesture and for ploughing back to the society.
According to him, instead of carrying out the research work in Nigeria, he has to go abroad which would have cost less if done in country.
He said “I am already a lecturer now and shortly I will be resuming here again after my service to the Bayelsa government. I like teaching, I like academics and I have come back to give back to society where I started from.
“As you have been informed in the VC’s speech, that I have just built a central science laboratory for the university because I don’t what others to pass through the same experience I had while carrying out my research here in Nigeria, instead of doing it in Nigeria I had to fly out of the country to complete my research work.
“And oftentimes we overlook the very little things that makes society grow. That is giving back to the society and if everyone does that the society will be a better place for everybody.”
He advised the youths not get involved in any forms of social vices but rather engage in meaningful ventures to contibute to societal development, saying that through hardwork and delibrate planning the sky would certainly not even be the limit.
“My message to fellow Bayelsans is keep striving, keep giving because a giver never lacks. In academics it is very easy to be the best just a little effort, if you think something is difficult I tell you nothing is difficult. If I can do it you can equally do. The most important thing is to have a dream and back it up with a plan of action and when you do that you are sure to succeed”
