By Godwin Udoh, Asaba
Aggrieved propesters in their numbers hasve besieged the headquarters of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), following the deliberate power outage by the company.
The protesters, comprising landlords and residents of the Government Reserved Area (GRA) Phase 2, Asaba, accused BEDC of deliberately outing in darkness since October 2017.
The protesters barricaded the major gate of the District Headquarters of the company as early as 7am along Anwai Road in Asaba and prevented top managements and field workers from accessing their offices. They carried placards of various headlines, including “BEDC restore our light”, “BEDC has failed us”, “BEDC is a big fraud”,”
“We have been in darkness since 2017”, “Funke is a 419, BEDC is a fraud” and chanting songs of war. The dangerous dimension the protest assumed thereafter forced the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area to mobilize four police vans,an attempt to disperse the protesters.
