OPINION: No justification for rape, by Olumide Akomolafe

In the last week, it’s so appalling to hear the different selfish and myopic opinions of Nigerians on the pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and Busola Dakolo’s rape saga.

How easy for us all to believe someone when they get robbed or involved in accident than to believe whoever comes to the open to speak out about being raped. *it is even easier to call it blackmail* especially when the perpetrator is a well known person in the society

When someone gets raped, *the society starts asking ridiculous* questions like:

“What were you wearing?”,  “you two must have had a thing in common then”, ” you must have enjoyed it too”, why are you speaking up after a long time of occurrence?”.

Are we ever going to encourage victims to speak out immediately when no one is willing to believe them?

For how long do we have to continue like this as a people? when are we ever going to start calling a spade a spade? i understand the fact that some of us do not want to pick sides but rape is a crime and it is punishable under law

It is worthy of note to say that “not every rape victim can provide an evidence, in that, the said act was not premeditated by the victim” Let justice take its place, no violator of law should go unpunished.
