NDDC to fix Odi community shoreline problem
Indigenes of Odi Community in Bayelsa State lament the menace of the relentless surge of the River Nun, as it has claimed another four houses and a large portion of the major road in the community.
Speaking on behalf of the Community, the Secretary of Odi Chiefs Council, Chief Throughman Abiama, said if nothing is done urgently the community may soon go into extinction.
Chief Abiama further urged the Federal Government to fast track the approval of the project of Odi shoreline protection which he said is before the Federal Executive Council (FEC), awaiting approval.
Abiama also pleaded with the Niger Delta Ministry to quickly intervene in saving Odi Community from possible extinction.
The chairman of Odi Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr. Goddy Niweigha, while speaking to newsmen, said “information available to us in the community, indicates the project was captured in the 2018 budget and advertised in major newspapers by the ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, with contractors having bidded and pre-qualified by the BPP.
“We are therefore calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, to come to our aid and ensure that the approval process is fast tracked. Time is of the essence, as you can see, Odi community is on the verge of being washed away into the River Nun.”
The CDC chairman also thanked a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Prince (Engr.) Preye Aganaba, who is believed to have played a vital role in getting the project into the 2018 budget.
