INEC fixes August 18 to replace murdered Taraba lawmaker
TARABA-The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba state has fixed August 18 to conduct a Bye-Election for the replacement of murdered Taraba lawmaker, Hosea Ibi who was representing Takum 1 constituency in the State House of Assembly.
The state Resident Electoral Commisssioner, Baba Yusuf who disclosed this on Wednesday in a meeting with stakeholders noted that the action followed a letter from Taraba state House of Assembly declaring his seat vacant.
He said ” i am pleased to inform you that the Speaker of Taraba assembly, Mr Abel Diah wrote the commission on Tuesday, July 24 and declared the long awaited Takum 1 seat vacant.
“The Commission is therefore mandated by law to conduct a bye election to fill the vacancy within 30 days.”
Yusuf told the gathering that the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) will end on August 17, 2018 and urged the stakeholders to cooperate with the commission for the success of the election.
It will be recalled that Hosea Ibi was abducted on Dec 31, 2017 in Takum and murdered by his abductors in January 2018.
