Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was on Tuesday quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

He arrived thecommission’s office in Abuja at about 9.00 a.m.

He was still in the custody of the police, a source said, as at the time of filing this report.

Among other things, Ekweremadu has been facing allegations of being involved in the forgery of the Senate Standing Rules.

It was said that the forgery helped the emergence of the principal officers of the Senate.

There were other charges of corruption bordering on possession of property.

It would be recalled the Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State chapter, on Thursday warned the Federal Government that no harm should befall Ekweremadu.

The group spoke in reaction to EFCC’s earlier invitation to the Deputy Senate President and the siege laid to his residence in Abuja Tuesday last week.

Said the group in a statement it issued:  “Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State chapter condemns this latest siege to Senator Ekweremadu in its totality. We are not unmindful of the fact that the Presidency has not hidden its disgust and resentment towards the senator since he emerged as the deputy Senate president in June 2015.

“Since that time, the Presidency has deployed all manner of undercut methods to deal with what it perceived as the Ekweremadu Challenge.

“Since 2015, Senator Ekweremadu has been accused of doctoring Senate rules, dragged to court, but was discharged and acquitted; hired assassins have been unleashed on him, yet, the federal government did nothing, the plan to plant huge sums of money in different currencies in Abuja Guest House and rope him, failed; he has been accused of illegal acquisition of property both in Nigeria and abroad all to no avail.

“And now, what the Presidency has conjured as the final solution to Ekweremadu problem, is to unleash men of the security forces to lay siege to his residence.”

The argument here is that Ike Ekweremadu was there as 2nd in command of the Senate when his people: the indigenous People of Biafra were proscribed as terrorist group by the Zoo judiciary dominated by Fulani people.
