The Director General, Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission, Mr Chidi Izuwah has expressed delight on the effort of Akwa Ibom State government towards the realization of the Ibom Deep Seaport project at Mbo Local Government Area of the State.
Izuwah, who led a delegation of the Ministerial Project Development and Steering Committee to the project site at the weekend, said, he was convinced the governor was committed and determined to translate the vision into reality.
He stated that, the level of readiness of the government has shown that, the Ibom Deep Seaport would be the best in Nigeria and the sub-region.
The DG also noted that, with the natural depth, the seaport would help to decongest Lagos, Port Harcourt and other seaports in the country.
According to him, “I’m amazed at the level of work recorded so far by the Akwa Ibom State Government, and this will help decongest other ports in the country” saying, Akwa Ibom State holds greater hope not only for its citizens, but for the entire country hoping to see that it was ready immediately.
He observed that, the access road design to the seaport to aid evacuation of goods and services was world class adding that, as God’s natural gift to Nigeria, Ibom Deep Seaport would be harnessed by the Federal Government in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Government, the National Assembly,Technical Partners and core investors to decongest Lagos when it becomes operational.
The elated Izuwah maintained that, the Super Highway as well as other road networks put in place by the State Government, which the Works Commissioner, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen showed them round has also proved that, the state was determined to accomplish the vision of a functional world class deep seaport.
He however, dismissed the fears that, the Federal Government may play politics with the project insisting that, President Muhammad Buhari was totally committed to transforming all parts of the country without any bias.
Governor Udom Emmanuel had earlier, emphasized that, the seaport when completed would not only improve the economy of the state but, create more employment opportunities for Nigerians.
The Governor, who spoke through the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon stated, “Government cannot do it alone as more hands are needed to make the project a success”.
Those in the delegation were; Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen, Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea Port, Mr. Akan Okon, Commissioner for Information, Sir Charles Udoh amongst others.
